I love a few people and they love me and some of them are white, and isn’t love more important than color?
The Fire Next Time
James Baldwin
New York, 1963
The earliest obtainable copy of one of the most iconic socio-racial works of the 60s and all time.
Uncorrected galleys. 12 x 7 inches, printed on rectos, unpaginated. Stiff boards bolt-bound at top over blue cloth tape, ink-stamped, publisher's typed label on front cover glue and tape-stained. First and last few leaves tanned, else very clean. Overall, Very Good.
One of a precious few made for the author, editors, and others within the publishing house to review - precedes all other iterations of the book(which are rather common even signed) except for the manuscript itself, and utterly scarce as such. No other examples in the sales records, a remarkable treasure.
“This is a beautiful book, a challenging book, a powerful book. It is a profoundly philosophical book.”(Ford)
