Der Tod in Venedig[Death in Venice] in Die neue Rundschau

Thomas Mann

Berlin, 1912

First appearance of Mann’s brooding work - in the October and November 1912 issues of Die neue Rundschau, Germany’s famed literary magazine.

Original wrappers, a few water stains on the moderately darkened spines, October issue with large owner signature on front cover verso, November covers with some pencil underlining of various listed stories. Both bindings very sound with largely clean text. Overall, nice Very Good copies.

A cult classic of 20th century fiction that explores an aesthete’s self-destruction. Doom’s shadow envelops his being with its dreary coldness, methodically freezing it until a moment’s hammer shatters everything.
