First edition, first printing of Hesse's introspective masterpiece.  Original wrappers - Tractat vom Steppenwolf with yellow title page bound in.  A very good copy with modest shelf wear around edges, some creasing to spine, and a bit of dustiness. Nonetheless, a nice example.
 
The first print run consisted of 15,000 copies - with around 10% or 1500 wrappered and the rest hardbound.  The hardcover with presentable jacket is certainly rare, but the wrappered state in meaningful condition is even more so.  A solid addition to the bookshelf.
